Most people who know St. George, UT think hot, hot, hot … so it’s probably a “best kept secret” this corner of the state can be pretty cool – temperature wise – in the winter months. Of course, if you are coming to St. George from Chicago, Wyoming or Seattle, you may not agree but for those of us who live here …. brrrrr!!!
Even without any white stuff covering our red rock landscape, visitors might wonder what there is to do outdoors during our version of winter weather. Our suggestion is to take a hike!
A short drive from downtown St. George is our spectacular Snow Canyon State Park (named for the early settler Erastus Snow … not the infrequent frozen precipitation) where you can enjoy a special winter-only hike open to the public from November 1 – March 14 each year. It is considered an easy hike taking only about an hour making it perfect for family and friends of all ages. And, at the end of the hike (before you turn around and head back to your car) you’ll find the glorious rock formation spanning 200 feet which we know as Johnson Arch.
Winter or summer, you are certain to enjoy a Southern Utah vacation any time of the year. Then at the end of a day of hiking around our beautiful Snow Canyon State Park in search of amazing photographs and unique wildlife, you can also look forward to coming back to your beautiful and affordable home-away-from-home.
