For more than 30 years, the Dickens Christmas Festival has been a chance to step back in time to the charm and tradition of an olde English Christmas. Held annually at the Dixie Convention Center in St. George, the Dickens Festival is a shopping experience like no other, with more than 160 exhibitors and booths resembling little English shoppes offering one-of-a-kind gifts and treasures for everyone on your Christmas gift list.
But the Dickens Christmas Festival is much, much more than just a shopping trip. From the moment you step inside, you’ll be greeted by carolers, characters right out of a Dickens novel – including those famous Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future – chimney sweeps, street urchins and costumed townsfolk singing and dancing for your entertainment. You’ll meet the puppet lady, pickpockets, the little match girl, British royalty, English bobbies and perhaps even have an audience with Her Majesty Queen Victoria. Each evening of the Festival, the Dickens Theater Company will present mini-musical productions of Dickens’ “Oliver Twist” and “Scrooge.”
There will also be tasty treats such as roasted chestnuts; English toffee, caramels, fudge and other homemade candies, as well as Mr. Bumble’s Giant Cinnamon Buns, Soups-in-a-Bun and delicious bread loaves. Oh, and did we mention, Father Christmas himself will be on hand to make even the most steadfast of non-believers rethink their position.
The Dickens Christmas Festival, held this year on the four days of November 30- December 3, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.,m., is for the whole family. Tickets are a miserly $7 per adult, $6 for seniors over age 65, and $5 for children ages 4-12. Children under age 3 may attend free-of-charge.
