Every year since 1990, the southern Utah community of Santa Clara celebrates its heritage with an event residents call Swiss Days – named for those hearty members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who were converted in Switzerland but began their immigration to the United States in 1861 to settle in Santa Clara, Utah.
This hometown celebration of history and fun kicks off on September 24 with a 5k run/walk and a pancake breakfast, followed by a Swiss Days Parade on Santa Clara Drive beginning at the historic Jacob Hamblin home and ending at Town Hall. This year’s parade is likely to include Santa Clara Princess Royalty, antique cars, a Grand Marshall, a nod to local businesses and schools, live animals, family or organizational floats, and everything in between!
The 3-days of festivities, from Thursday, September 24 through Saturday, September 26, will also include food booths, merchandise for sale, continuous hometown entertainment, a Friday night concert; and, historic displays of family heritage and the growth of the town all at Town Hall. At nearby Heritage Square there will be pioneer craft demonstrations and children’s activities; and the Red Rock Car Show at Canyon View Park.
