Described as an early-season race with breathtaking American Southwest scenery, and fresh, crisp spring air, the Ironman 70.3 in St. George, UT is considered, “the toughest race I have ever done. I did a full last year and it was easier than this half. I have done three difficult ones, but St. George is so much tougher. I was good until Snow Canyon … about killed me for the run. They say St. George is the second toughest race there is and I believe it, but what could possibly be the number 1 toughest??? Love the town and the people!!”
On Saturday, May 5, 2018, the St. George community – voted by participants as “Best Race Venue” and “Best Host City Experience” – will once again host the grueling, challenging, inspiring and thought by some triathletes to be the nation’s 2nd toughest Ironman 70.3 Triathlon. Set in Southern Utah’s spectacularly beautiful red rock country, approximately 2500 ironmen – and ironwomen – will run a half marathon of 13.1 miles through the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve, complete a 56-mile bicycle ride and swim 1.2 miles at Sand Hollow Reservoir – all completed in succession within 17 hours beginning at 7 a.m. and ending no later than midnight.
The IRONMAN 70.3 is technically the 8th event of its kind in the St. George area, but is officially the 5th half competition – and the season’s earliest – North American Pro-Championship qualifying race.
