Earliest & Most Challenging Ironman

Ironman

St. George, Utah – the environmentally striking Southwestern home of the season’s earliest IRONMAN 70.3 race – was voted “Athletes’ Choice for Best Race Venue and Best Host City Experience” on the 2016 annual tour.

On Saturday, May 6, in our beautiful scenic red rock country, in and around St. George only 45 minutes from Zion National Park, Ironmen and Ironwomen participate in a swim in pristine Sand Hollow Reservoir; a bike ride and half marathon run through epic landscape including spectacular views of downtown St. George; the red, white and black of Snow Canyon State Park; and, the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve, home to the world’s only healthy population of Mojave Desert tortoise. But for all its scenic majesty, our fabulous landscape is considered the most challenging course on the IRONMAN 70.3 circuit.

The Snow Canyon climb is a difficult task to complete, but is lined with motivational posters from the local tri clubs. And, if you are a returning athlete – even a newcomer – you’ll be pleased to know the first eight miles of the bike course through Snow Canyon have been repaved and are now “smooth as silk.”

Before and after this grueling event, you’ll also enjoy the city’s walkable downtown area, which offers great local fare and boutique shopping—perfect for enjoying the sunny spring weather (but be prepared for daytime temperatures in the 90’s). And, remember, too, St. George is only two hours from the nightlife of Las Vegas, with its never-ending entertainment options.
