The 3rd annual Mesquite Hot Air Balloon Festival will be held Saturday, January 21st and Sunday, January 22nd. But with the one-hour time change (Nevada is an hour behind Utah), you’ll still need to leave early for the event – but not ridiculously early – since the first balloon doesn’t lift off until 7:30 a.m. Nevada time. A salute to our beloved Stars and Stripes will kickoff the festivities after which additional balloons – as many as 40 – will begin their ascent above the Virgin Valley.
If you’re not a morning person, you’ll be happy to know a balloon glow will take place in the CasaBlanca parking lot at sundown on Saturday evening offering spectators a breathtaking view of inflated balloons lighted by burners against the night sky. You might also enjoy the opportunity to chat with pilots and stroll among these colorful and colossal inflatables.
On this day trip to our neighboring community, just 35 miles to the south on the I-15 freeway, you can also enjoy traveling through the spectacular Virgin River Gorge (pay attention to the speed limit), put a few nickels in the slots or play a round of golf at any one of several beautiful courses within town limits.
