If art and culture is your thing or if you are just looking for another amazing southern Utah event while vacationing in our area, here’s a suggestion for another exciting event we think you’ll enjoy.

Presenting the 29th annual Sears Invitational Art Show and Sale.  This year, approximately 250 works by 125 artists have been selected for display and sale, including oils, watercolors, pastels, acrylics and other mediums portraying landscapes, figures and stills.  The biggest art event in the state of Utah will also feature incredible one-of-a-kind ceramics and sculpture in bronze and glass.

The show kicks off in the Delores Doré Eccles Fine Arts Center on the campus of Dixie State University at 4 p.m. on Friday, February 12 with a free Symposium featuring George Handrahan, last year’s Purchase Prize winner.  Beginning at 6 p.m. a gala and pre-sale event will feature a meet-and-greet with many of the artists, elegant food and a chance to be the first to purchase art on display. The opportunity to purchase art for your own collection will include a 35% donation to the gallery for the addition of art to DSU’s permanent collection.  Tickets are available for $75 per person, by calling 435-652-7903.

The Sears Invitational opens to the public on Saturday, February 13 and runs for 6-weeks through March 27, 2016.  Open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 – 6 p.m., the show is free to all art enthusiasts.

Named for the late Robert N. and Peggy Sears who, like so many others, retired to Southern Utah in the 1980’s where they were disappointed to discover a lack of a thriving art community.  While they loved the scenery and friendly neighbors, they missed big city culture.  Their solution was to offer their time and resources to create an event, which would ultimately become pivotal to their goal of bringing art and artists to the St. George area.

So add the Sears Invitational Art Show and Sale to your list of “things to see and do” in southern Utah, then register online for a week or a month in a comfortable and affordable home-away-from-home.  Choose either St. George Resort Rentals at stgeorgeresortrentals.com  or  laspalmasresortcondos.com for Five Seasons Vacation condominiums.   We look forward to seeing you.
